The foundations of Adam’s professional life were shaped during his time at Temple University, where he spent more than 17 years. While working on his Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice, he worked as a student assistant in Temple’s Samuel Paley Library’s Circulation Department. Also during this time, he became interested in helping his community. He became one of 12 founding fathers of the Gamma Psi Chapter of Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity. Adam took part in many Fraternity-sponsored community assistance projects to raise money for worthy causes, including the American Heart Association and the Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Adam also served for two years as the Fraternity’s Sports Director, where he organized and played on teams participating in the University’s intramural sports leagues. Outside of the fraternity, he coached and played for various community softball, basketball, tennis, and roller hockey leagues.
Following graduation, Adam accepted a full-time position in the Library’s Serials Acquisitions Unit. He eventually advanced to the position of the Unit Head, as well as the Cost Accountant for Temple University Libraries (including Main Campus, Health Sciences, Ambler, Tyler, and Harrisburg). During his tenure, Adam served as President of the Libraries’ Staff Association, co-chaired the Mission Statement Committee, coached and played for the library’s softball and volleyball teams, and served on the Continuing Education Committee, Safety and Security Committee, Automated Training Committee, and Staff Council. He was also the organizer of the Libraries’ semi-annual blood drives.
While working full-time for the Libraries, Adam cultivated his interests in both youth and business by earning his Master of Education in Early Childhood and Elementary Education and his Master of Business Administration in Accounting. He left Temple in March 2003 to accept a staff accountant position at The Philadelphia Foundation, where he continued to increase his knowledge and experience while working primarily with planned giving vehicles. After spending a year and a half with The Philadelphia Foundation, Adam joined the Greater Philadelphia Federation of Settlements in October 2005 as Chief Financial Officer.
