Founded in 1893 as a settlement house, The Lighthouse has been in continuous operation serving the Kensington and North Philadelphia communities of the City of Philadelphia. Over the years, it has become a multi-service provider to a multi-cultural community.
Mission:
Offer educational, recreational and economic improvement programs that provide families and individuals the opportunity to affect positive change and improve the quality of their lives.
Values:
- The Lighthouse strongly supports the view that everyone is equal regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, gender or sexual orientation. The Lighthouse respects, appreciates, and celebrates the diversity that is represented in the community that it serves.
- The community we serve and each individual in it has gifts which are positive and on which we build our delivery of services.
- Community participation and input is an essential ingredient in each program that The Lighthouse conducts.
- Each individual who is a part of The Lighthouse community, including Board, staff, children, youth, adults, seniors, all participants and all constituents must be treated with dignity, respect and with a sense of equal justice.
- The Lighthouse is committed to being a force for positive change in the community. All programs will be of the highest quality because the community deserves the best. Programs are conducted with sensitivity and caring concern for the participant and his/her family.
- The Lighthouse recognizes the fact that cooperation and collaboration with other organizations and institutions can result in more effective delivery to our constituency.
