Last updated 4 months ago
The Greater Philadelphia Federation of Settlements (Federation) was established in 1906 to help build strong neighborhoods by strengthening families and civic life.  That mission is achieved by the Federation enhancing the capacity of its network of 15 settlement houses and neighborhood centers—community-based anchor institutions that collectively provide services to more than 100,000 low-income families, children and youth per year.

The Greater Philadelphia Federation of Settlements is committed to being a major force in the development of healthy, safe, thriving neighborhoods and communities through creative, results-driven practices.   As an umbrella organization, we achieve these results by creating high quality capacity building opportunities for our network of community-building organizations.  As a leader and innovator, we develop pioneering models which can be used both locally and nationally to achieve results. GPFS strengthens and empowers families and neighborhoods through:

  • Providing high standards of care for our affiliates through professional, financial, and program development; and
  • Serving as a focal point for problem solving, training, collegial support, and collaboration; and
  • Determining and disseminating best practices in the area of neighborhood development and community building; and
  • Serving as an incubator for creative new approaches; and
  • Being a leading force that shapes public policy in neighborhood development
